“The CDC now recommends that everyone aged 75 and older receive the RSV vaccine. Additionally, people aged 60 to 74 with chronic medical conditions like heart or lung disease, or those living in nursing homes, should also get vaccinated. This update aims to protect those at the highest risk of severe RSV illness.”

“However, there’s a significant caution to be aware of: If you have already received an RSV vaccine, you should not get another dose. This new guideline is due to higher-than-expected rates of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) linked to the vaccine. GBS is a rare but serious condition that can cause muscle weakness, tingling, and even paralysis. In severe cases, it can affect the muscles that support breathing, making it life-threatening.”

“It’s essential to talk to your healthcare provider to determine if the RSV vaccine is right for you. They can help you understand the benefits and risks based on your health condition.”
