Long-Term Care “First on the list, long-term care. Medicare doesn’t cover most long-term care services, such as staying in a nursing home or assisted living. If you’re planning for your future, it’s essential to consider long-term care insurance or other ways to cover these costs.”

Dental Care “Next, let’s talk about dental care. Regular dental visits, cleanings, dentures, and fillings—these aren’t covered by Medicare. If you want dental coverage, you might need a separate dental plan or a Medicare Advantage plan with built-in dental benefits.”

Hearing Aids “Third, and one that surprises a lot of people—hearing aids. Unfortunately, if you need hearing aids, Medicare won’t help with the cost. These can be expensive, so check if your Medicare Advantage plan offers hearing aid coverage, or look into separate plans for hearing care.”

Routine Vision Care “Number four on the list is routine vision care. Medicare doesn’t cover things like eye exams, glasses, or contacts. However, some Medicare Advantage plans may include vision benefits. Be sure to explore your options if you need regular vision care.”

Prescription Drugs “Another big gap is prescription drugs. Medicare Part A and Part B do not cover outpatient prescriptions. For this, you need a separate Part D plan or a Medicare Advantage plan that includes drug coverage. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay out-of-pocket for medications.”

Foreign Travel Emergencies “Next, if you’re planning to travel, keep in mind that foreign travel emergencies are not covered by Medicare. If you need medical care while abroad, Medicare won’t cover it. You’ll need supplemental travel insurance or a plan that includes emergency coverage overseas.”

Alternative Medicine “Finally, alternative medicine, such as acupuncture, chiropractic care (except for some spine issues), and massage therapy, are generally not covered by Medicare. You’ll need to pay out-of-pocket unless you have a plan that offers some coverage.”
