So glad I bought this book because it focuses on single people growing older and dealing with all the problems of aging instead of the majority of books which address a two-person strategy in dealing with growing older, retirement, etc. I like the reality-based, non-sugarcoated approach the author uses. Well worth the price!

I bought this thinking it would offer practical, sound advice. It does, if you were recently a two-income household! Nothing helpful about the single person who may have lost all in a divorce, death or just by being self-employed. Investments? 401k? All things for the life-long corporate earner, not a stay at home parent or someone whose spouse may have mismanaged money before dying or divorcing.
Look for something other than this book for what you need to do!

Well laid out I formation covering topics such as retirement planning, types of investment that are best for protecting retirement funds, estate planning, insurance, assisted living, long term care, etc. it also covers those areas not routinely thought about, it; how to handle thinning hair and arrangements for care of your pets if something happens to you. Very valuable information for any senior citizen.

After suddenly becoming single at 58, I am aware that I’ll be going into old age alone. The author addressed every topic that pertained to my worries.
Warren C. Gibson –
This is what I got from the book. Your mileage may vary.
I was already abreast of the financial and estate planning information presented. Much of it was very basic and likely well known to anyone literate enough to buy books.
Ditto for the health information. I did find one useful takeaway here: use more sunscreen.
It may have been her editor’s idea to use so many one-sentence paragraphs. Regardless, I find this writing style quite irritating.

I got this today and although I haven’t read it in great detail, I’ve read enough to be very impressed.
Alvarez has a very matter of fact style and doesn’t pull any punches.
I recently retired and learned a lot of new info from this book or got more detail on things I did know. I recommend this if you are in your 50’s or older so you can make a good life for yourself in retirement.
