I wish this book had been available back in the early 70’s when I was just starting my breeding program and struggled with creating the optimum feeding program for all my horses thru showing, pregnancies, breeding stallions and growing foals. The detailed explanations of feed contents, dietary needs at different stages of life and charts and graphs make it a valuable asset to any equine owners library. This book is packed with useful information and tips for all horse owners. I liked it well enough to buy extra copies to give to friends.

I am 24, and have spent over 11 years studying horses hooves, anatomy, pathology, and psychology. This book has sparked an incredible fascination with equine nutrition and health. Our horses truly deserve more than any one person could ever provide for them, but it is my highest priority to provide my horses with everything in my ability. This book should be read by everyone who owns a horse, or even those who lease or take lessons, especially those looking to get their own some day. The famous saying, “no hoof no horse,” couldn’t be more applicable; farriers and trimmers can only do so much without proper nutrition on the owner’s side. I would expect to pay $180+ for this book in school. I read it every night, then reread it in sections. You will not regret this purchase!

I am a novice horse owner and therefore subject to so many different opinions on the proper care and feeding of my horse. Because I can’t take everyone’s advice I need to figure out what is best for my horse and what works for me. For many years this was trial and error and sometimes just plain guesswork. Until now! The Ultimate Guide to Horse Feed, Supplements, and Nutrition gives me all the information I need to make informed decisions and good choices for my horse. It is easy to use and understand and the real life stories are both entertaining as well as informative. Given the science and research behind this guide I feel confident in the accuracy of the information. I purchased copies for my trainer, barn manager, and farrier and their collective professional opinion is “WOW”. I recommend this book for the novice and professional alike. This book both validates information you may already know or helps you sort out the chaos of conflicting opinions; easy to comprehend and very clear.

Accurate, evidence-based, with good scientific thinking (figuring out what works not what the majority thinks works).
The horse-world is rampant with myths passed on like an epidemic, also when it comes to feeding horses. The welfare, short-, and long-term health of your horse will suffer the same result as they are unless you get better, qualitative information.
This is the Bible when it comes to feeding your horse, I’ve read many books on this topic, I find this one the most accessible and trustworthy.
Bottom-line: Forage, forage, forage. For nutritional needs, for a healthy ‘belly’, for their teeth, for their mind.
