What’s covered?

Medicare covers services (like lab tests, surgeries, and doctor visits) and supplies (like wheelchairs and walkers) considered medically necessary to treat a disease or condition.

If you’re in a Medicare Advantage Plan or other Medicare plan, you may have different rules, but your plan must give you at least the same coverage as Original Medicare. Some services may only be covered in certain settings or for patients with certain conditions.

If Medicare covers you, you have a number of free preventive care services available to you to promote your health and wellbeing.

All Medicare beneficiaries are eligible for an annual wellness visit, a yearly appointment with your health care provider to update or develop a five to 10-year prevention schedule based on your needs.

If you have been receiving Medicare Part B benefits for at least 12 months and have not had an initial “Welcome to Medicare” exam, you are now eligible for this free benefit.
